Built around connectors, aluminium tubes, bicycle trailers and lightweight attachments, it can be assembled into temporary structures for play, gathering, workshop use, small events or simple occupation of a site. The point is not to impose one finished form, but to keep a place open to change through a system that can move, land and be reconfigured as needed.

Mobil has been developed with Cultureghem and a lot of different partners through repeated tests in Brussels. Assembly, transport, stability, storage and repair are all part of the design work. The project is shaped as much by what happens in use as by drawings or prototypes.

## What the system includes

The basic system is only one part of the project. Over time, Mobil has expanded into a wider kit:

- trailers that also work as tables, podiums or transport devices
- a structural system of tubes and injection moulded connectors
- textile coverings and spatial add-ons
- inflatable elements for seating, play or temporary enclosure
- sound, power and storage elements that extend what the setup can do on site

## How it develops

Mobil is not a finished product. It is a working framework for prototyping in public: building, testing, adjusting and trying again. Some parts stay because they are clear and robust. Others are simplified, rebuilt or dropped.

This open process is central to the project. It keeps the system practical, adaptable and grounded in real use rather than fixed too early into one scenario.

## Shared use

Mobil is also meant to be transferable. Documentation, graphic marking, training and simple assembly logic are part of the trajectory, because the aim is not only to build structures, but to make the system easier for others to use, maintain and develop further over time.

REUS(in) started as a search for how a giant figure for Koekelberg could take shape from local stories, voices and experiences rather than from a fixed character designed in advance. Through workshops and encounters in the neighbourhood, a first inflatable form emerged, followed by a first public presentation.

In a second phase, the project shifted from form to voice. Together with Alex De Force, REUS(in) developed into an interactive audio story for young people, using sound, fiction and choice to make questions around the city and living together tangible.

At its core, REUS(in) is about claiming space for those who are too often overlooked or unheard. The giant becomes a way to take up room, to appear at full scale, and to give presence to stories that are not usually centred in public space.

DOTS Phone is a phone-based prototype developed within the broader DOT tool. It uses the familiar logic of the telephone to support accessible conversations in care contexts and to gather everyday signals, wishes and needs.

Rather than adding another digital layer, the project works with a device people already understand. The aim is to make interaction easier to approach and easier to use in practice.

Early tests showed that even short conversations can produce relevant input around routines, preferences, autonomy and the feeling of being at home. DOTS Phone is still a rough prototype, but it already suggests a clearer way of listening within care settings.

Rue de la Braie was developed for a residential street in central Brussels that kept being used like a parking strip. Although the street had been redesigned as a woonerf, illegal parking continued to override its intended use.

The project responded with a series of fifteen benches designed to make parking impossible and return the street to everyday public life. Their irregular forms gave the intervention a strong spatial presence, but the logic was practical: change the layout, change the behaviour.

Assembled at Recyclart Fabrik from a design by Yannick Roels, the benches created room for sitting, waiting and informal occupation in a street used daily by schoolchildren and local residents. The project treated furniture not as an accessory, but as an active tool in shaping how shared space works.

Dance Connect is a mobile dance studio developed for Leon, whose participatory dance practice works with diverse groups across Brussels. The project provides a transportable setup for rehearsal, workshops and collective activity in changing environments.

Instead of asking participants to come to a fixed studio, the infrastructure can travel to them. This allows Leon to bring dance activity directly into care settings, neighbourhood contexts and public space.

Built as a modular system, Dance Connect combines floor, sound, shelter, power and basic hospitality in one mobile setup. It allows dance to travel, land and temporarily reshape a site.
